What is long term care*?
You need long-term care when you are not able to complete personal care or other daily activities on your own. This is most often the result of a chronic illness or disability. In some cases, the illness or disability may include memory loss, confusion, or disorientation, sometimes called cognitive impairment. This can be the result of conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.
Our caring home health care professionals provide a full spectrum of support for ADL and IADL functions.
Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) are activities in which people engage on a day-to-day basis. These are everyday personal care activities that are fundamental to caring for oneself and maintaining independence. These include bathing, dressing, grooming, mouth care, walking, transferring from bed to chair, toileting and climbing stairs.
Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) are activities related to independent living and are valuable for evaluating persons with early-stage disease, both to assess the level of disease and to determine the person’s ability to care for himself or herself. These include shopping, cooking, managing medications, using the phone, housework, laundry, driving, or using public transportation.
